Guest Speaker Eugina Gusev
‘Economic Recovery in Post-Conflict Situations’
Eugina Gusev from the NGO International Rescue Committee spoke on methods of long term economic recovery after conflict and natural disaster situations.
After the provision of emergency relief strategies have to be defined to restore people’s income opportunities which is a challenge in situations where livelihoods have been significantly affected by sudden events or long-term unrest.
Eugina explained the strategies developed by IRC to map the specific needs for economic development by beneficiaries and illustrated how this is applied in practice by various case studies.
For the participants there was information documentation available and after the talk there were opportunities for questions.

‘The Truth about Trade’
Clive George, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Manchester and former principal advisor to the World Bank, spoke on his new book ‘The Truth about Trade’. He provided an analysis of the current situation and addressed various limitations and opportunties for international trade to reduce poverty and increase equality in welfare. After his talk there were opportunities for questions by students.
